Siloam Thrift Store

The mission of Siloam Thrift Store is to turn “Trash into Treasure”. We aim to bring awareness of environmental wellness and encourage everyone to:

• Refuse consuming more than you need and using non-biodegradable products.
• Reduce the waste being produced and minimise carbon footprint.
• Reuse what you have as much as possible and shop at thrift stores.
• Recycle or even upcycle to give old goods a new lease of life.

In the developed and prosperous Singapore that we live in, we are bombarded with advertisements to consume more. We end up with purchases that fill our storerooms to the brink. If we were to declutter, we could find ourselves with items that we do not even remember purchasing. Instead of throwing them away, Siloam Thrift Store is a great place where you can donate your preloved items.

These items will then be made available to the underprivileged in our communities. We work with family service centres to allow needy clients and ex-offenders to shop for free under our Pay-It-4ward Programme. We also work with mission groups and other charities to send relief to those in need globally.

If you are for sustainable shopping and looking for a bargain, you are also welcome to pop by to shop for a good cause! Net proceeds from the Thrift Store go towards supporting underprivileged communities in Singapore, Cambodia and beyond.

After all, we live in an interdependent ecosystem. We have a responsibility to protect it. We will also save money when we spend less on consumption and save our precious time managing the clutter. We can use our valuable resources on that which truly matters to us, be it family, hobbies or humanitarian works. So let’s make a stand by refusing and reducing and start finding creative ways to reuse and recycle what we already have. It is a win-win situation for us and the environment.

At Siloam Thrift Store, we welcome anyone from all walks of life to volunteer or intern with us and gain a deeper understanding of the environmental and social impact we can make. It is also an avenue for our volunteers to experience running a thrift store and brainstorm ideas to improve it.
